Rodrigue Gabriel 'Rod' Gilbert (July 1, 1941 – August 22, 2021), affectionately known as 'Mr. Ranger,' was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played his entire 18-season National Hockey League (NHL) career for the New York Rangers, from 1960 to 1978. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982, Gilbert was celebrated for his exceptional skill, scoring prowess, and unwavering dedication to the Rangers. He formed one-third of the famed 'GAG line' (Goal-A-Game line) alongside Jean Ratelle and Vic Hadfield, which was one of the most formidable offensive lines of its era. Despite career-threatening injuries, including a severe back injury early in his career that required spinal fusion surgery, Gilbert's perseverance and talent made him a beloved figure in New York sports history. His number 7 was the first to be retired by the New York Rangers. After his playing career, he remained an active ambassador for the team and the sport.
