Rohan Padhye is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). His research interests are primarily in software engineering, programming languages, and security, with a significant focus on automated program analysis techniques, especially fuzz testing (fuzzing) and automated test generation. He aims to develop tools and methodologies that make software more reliable, secure, and easier to build. Dr. Padhye leads the Automated Software Engineering and Fuzzing Lab at CMU. Before joining CMU in Fall 2019, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also received his Ph.D. in Computer Science. His work often involves creating practical tools that find real-world bugs in complex software systems.
Rohan Padhye's work history includes a series of influential roles in various companies. Here is a detailed list of his professional journey:
Recipient of the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 2022 for his research proposal on 'Foundational Techniques for Developer-Friendly Fuzzing', recognizing his potential as a leader in research and education.
Authored and co-authored multiple papers that have received ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Awards at premier software engineering conferences such as ICSE (International Conference on Software Engineering) and FSE (Foundations of Software Engineering), signifying high-impact research contributions. For example, at ICSE 2023 for 'Fuzzing for Cyber-Physical System Safety' and FSE 2021 for 'Coverage-Guided Fuzzing for Deep Learning Frameworks'.
Pioneered and contributed to the development of influential fuzzing tools and techniques, such as FuzzFactory (a framework for building custom fuzzers) and DiffTGen (differential testing for deep learning), which have advanced the state-of-the-art in automated bug detection.
Received a Google Research Scholar Award in 2022, providing support for his innovative research in areas relevant to Google and the broader academic community, likely related to software testing and reliability.
