Clayton Moore (born Jack Carlton Moore on September 14, 1914, in Chicago, Illinois) was an American actor best known for his iconic portrayal of the Lone Ranger in the popular television series 'The Lone Ranger' from 1949 to 1951 and 1954 to 1957, as well as in two feature films. Before his defining role, Moore had a career as a circus acrobat and model, eventually transitioning to Hollywood in the late 1930s, appearing in numerous B-Westerns and film serials. As the Lone Ranger, with his signature mask, silver bullets, and cry of 'Hi-Yo, Silver!', Moore became a symbol of justice and heroism for millions, particularly children of the baby boomer generation. He was deeply committed to the Lone Ranger's Creed, which promoted good conduct and citizenship, and he strived to be a positive role model both on and off screen. Even after the series ended, Moore continued to make public appearances as the Lone Ranger for many years, maintaining the character's integrity. He famously fought a legal battle in the late 1970s for the right to wear the Lone Ranger mask after the production company attempted to prevent him. Clayton Moore passed away on December 28, 1999, leaving behind a legacy as one of television's most enduring heroes.
