After an initial period learning from his father at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall, he went on to establish his own pottery, Lowerdown Pottery, in Bovey Tracey, Devon, in 1955. David Leach was celebrated for his mastery of porcelain and stoneware, his elegant forms, and his refined glazes, particularly his distinctive celadon and tenmoku.
