Clarence J. 'Bud' Brown Jr. (June 18, 1927 – January 26, 2022) was an American publisher and politician. A member of the Republican Party, he served nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives for Ohio's 7th congressional district from 1965 to 1983, succeeding his father, Clarence J. Brown Sr., in that seat. Following his congressional career, Brown held significant roles in the executive branch, serving as Deputy Secretary of Commerce from 1983 to 1987 and as Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce in 1987-1988 under President Ronald Reagan. Educated at Duke University (B.A.) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A.), he also had a long career in the newspaper industry as president of the Brown Publishing Company, a family-owned business. He was known for his fiscal conservatism and focus on economic policy. Brown was a long-time resident of Urbana, Ohio, where he was deeply involved in the community and where he passed away.
