Brian Douglas Williams is an American journalist and former television news anchor. He was a principal anchor at MSNBC, where he hosted The 11th Hour with Brian Williams. Williams is best known for his 10 years as anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, the evening news program on NBC. He began his broadcasting career in 1981 at KOAM-TV in Pittsburg, Kansas. After working in several local markets, he joined NBC News in 1993 as a national correspondent. In 2004, he succeeded Tom Brokaw as the anchor of NBC Nightly News. His tenure was marked by high ratings but ended in controversy in 2015 over misrepresentations of his experiences during the Iraq War.
