UCA's mission is to promote the social and economic development of Central Asia, particularly its mountain societies, while helping the diverse peoples of the region preserve and draw upon their rich cultural traditions as assets for the future. It operates three fully residential campuses in Naryn (Kyrgyz Republic), Khorog (Tajikistan), and Tekeli (Kazakhstan), alongside the Aga Khan Humanities Project, a School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) with learning centres across the region, and a Graduate School of Development.
