The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) is a collaboration of academic and industrial partners from across the nuclear manufacturing supply chain. Its mission is to help UK manufacturers win work in the nuclear sector – covering new build, operations, and decommissioning – by developing innovative techniques and optimised processes for large-scale, high-precision manufacturing. Part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the Nuclear AMRC combines academic excellence from the University of Sheffield and the University of Manchester with the expertise of its industrial members.
Serves as the main research and development hub, featuring large-scale experimental manufacturing facilities, workshops, and laboratories for developing and demonstrating advanced manufacturing techniques for the nuclear industry.
State-of-the-art workshops equipped with world-leading large-scale machining, welding (including electron beam welding), and metrology capabilities. The facility is designed to handle very large components, crucial for the nuclear sector.
A highly collaborative and innovative environment that bridges academia and industry. The culture promotes problem-solving, knowledge transfer, and the pursuit of manufacturing excellence to support the UK nuclear supply chain.
The headquarters is central to the UK's nuclear manufacturing strategy, providing critical R&D support to enhance the competitiveness of UK companies in the global nuclear market and contributing to the nation's clean energy objectives.
While primarily focused on strengthening the UK's nuclear manufacturing supply chain, Nuclear AMRC actively engages in international collaborations. This includes partnerships with overseas research institutions, participation in global nuclear forums, and supporting UK companies in accessing international markets. Its research and innovations often have global relevance and contribute to international best practices in nuclear manufacturing.
