The Newberry Library is an independent research library dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge, especially in the humanities. Located in Chicago, it houses an extensive non-circulating collection of rare books, maps, manuscripts, and other printed materials. The Newberry offers free public access to its collections, supports research through fellowships and programs, and provides a range of educational events, exhibitions, and digital resources for scholars, students, and the general public worldwide.

While physically located in Chicago, the Newberry Library possesses a global reach. Its collections are international in scope, particularly strong in materials relating to Western Europe from the late Middle Ages to the early 20th century, and the Americas from European contact to the mid-20th century. The Newberry supports a global community of researchers through residential fellowships, digital access to collections, and international scholarly programs and collaborations. Its resources are utilized by scholars, students, and researchers from around the world, contributing to global understanding and scholarship in the humanities.
