The National Association of State Foresters (NASF) is a non-profit organization founded in 1920, composed of the directors of forestry agencies in the states, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. NASF's mission is to represent State and Territorial Forester interests in the protection, conservation, and sustainable management of forests and natural resources across the United States. The association advocates for federal policies that promote healthy forests, provides a unified voice for state forestry on national issues like wildfire management, forest health, and conservation, and facilitates collaboration among its members and with federal and private partners. NASF members are responsible for the stewardship of two-thirds of the nation's forests, including state and private lands.
The headquarters serves as the primary administrative and advocacy center for NASF. It coordinates national policy efforts, member services, communications, and strategic partnerships to support state and territorial forestry agencies.
Strategically located in the Hall of the States building, offering close proximity to federal government agencies, Congress, and other national organizations, which is vital for its policy and advocacy work. The office is a professional suite tailored for association management and meetings.
A mission-driven and collaborative professional environment. Staff are typically experts in forestry policy, natural resource management, and association operations, dedicated to advancing the interests of state foresters and sustainable forestry.
NASF's D.C. headquarters is crucial for influencing national forest policy, fostering inter-agency cooperation, and representing the collective voice of state foresters on critical issues such as wildfire funding, forest health initiatives, and conservation programs.
The National Association of State Foresters primarily focuses on forestry within the United States. However, it engages internationally by collaborating with global forestry organizations, sharing expertise in areas like sustainable forest management and wildfire control, and participating in international discussions on forest policy. NASF does not maintain its own physical offices outside the U.S., but its member state foresters may individually engage in various international initiatives.
