Moonbot Studios was an acclaimed American animation and storytelling studio co-founded in 2009 by authors and filmmakers William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, along with producer Lampton Enochs. Based in Shreveport, Louisiana, the studio quickly gained international recognition for its unique artistic style and heartwarming narratives across various mediums, including short films, books, and interactive apps. Their most famous work, 'The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,' won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2012. Moonbot was celebrated for its innovative approach to storytelling, blending traditional animation techniques with cutting-edge digital technology. In 2019, Moonbot Studios' intellectual property and assets were acquired by Invisible Universe, a technology and entertainment company focused on creating original animated character franchises for social media platforms. While the original studio operations in Shreveport largely ceased post-acquisition, its creative legacy and impact on the animation world endure.
Formerly served as the central hub for all creative development, animation production, interactive content creation, publishing, and business operations.
The studio was famously housed in a renovated historic department store (former Sears building), transformed into a whimsical and inspiring creative space. It featured open-plan workspaces, a state-of-the-art screening room, recording studios, and unique, art-filled environments designed to foster imagination.
Known for a highly collaborative, imaginative, and passionate work environment. It fostered a close-knit 'family' atmosphere that encouraged artistic experimentation, storytelling excellence, and a playful approach to creation.
The Shreveport headquarters was significant not only as the birthplace of award-winning animation but also as a testament to creative excellence thriving outside traditional industry hubs. It contributed to the local arts scene and economy.
While physically based in Shreveport, Louisiana, Moonbot Studios achieved a significant global presence through the international distribution of its films, books, and apps. Its works were showcased at film festivals worldwide, translated into multiple languages, and enjoyed by audiences across continents. Its primary operational presence, however, was centralized in its US headquarters before its acquisition.
