The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science national laboratory. Its primary mission is to conduct world-class basic research in nuclear physics to probe the fundamental structure of matter. Jefferson Lab designs, builds, and operates the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), a unique superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) electron accelerator, and associated experimental halls. It serves an international community of over 1,800 physicists who conduct research on the quark-gluon structure of hadrons, the physics of nuclei, and tests of fundamental symmetries. The lab is also a leader in accelerator science and technology, particularly SRF technology, and applies its expertise to other scientific and societal challenges.
