Inland Northwest Blood Center (INBC) was a non-profit community blood provider serving hospitals in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Founded in 1945, INBC played a critical role in the region's healthcare. In 2015, INBC merged with Blood Center of the Pacific and Blood Centers of the Pacific Northwest, eventually becoming part of Vitalant, one of the nation's largest non-profit blood service providers. While the name INBC is historical, its mission to save lives through blood donation continues under the Vitalant banner in the Inland Northwest, ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply for patients in need.
Served as the main administrative, collection, processing, testing, and distribution center for blood products in the Inland Northwest region.
The Spokane facility was equipped with laboratories for blood testing and processing, donor screening areas, blood storage units, and offices for mobile blood drive coordination. It also housed educational and community outreach program resources.
The work culture at INBC was deeply rooted in community service and a commitment to saving lives. Employees and volunteers were driven by a strong sense of purpose, emphasizing safety, quality, and compassionate care for blood donors and recipients.
The headquarters was crucial for providing a stable and safe blood supply to numerous hospitals and medical facilities across Eastern Washington and North Idaho. It played a vital role in routine medical treatments, emergency care, and regional disaster preparedness.
As Inland Northwest Blood Center, its operational focus was primarily regional, dedicated to serving communities throughout Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Following its integration into Vitalant, its efforts now contribute to a comprehensive national network. Vitalant operates donation centers and blood service facilities in nearly 30 states, serving approximately 900 hospitals across the United States. While not 'global' in terms of international offices, Vitalant participates in national resource sharing programs to ensure blood availability where it's needed most within the U.S. and engages in research and collaborations that can have global implications for blood safety and transfusion medicine.
