Food Lifeline is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger in Western Washington by rescuing surplus food from various sources and distributing it to over 350 food banks, shelters, and meal programs. They source millions of pounds of nutritious food annually, working with farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants to prevent food waste and feed people facing hunger. Food Lifeline also advocates for policies to address the root causes of hunger.
Serves as the central facility for food sourcing, receiving, sorting, repacking (with the help of thousands of volunteers), temporary storage, and distribution to partner agencies across Western Washington. It also houses administrative and program staff.
The Hunger Solution Center is a 130,000-square-foot facility featuring extensive warehouse space, large commercial refrigerators and freezers, a dedicated volunteer repack center, and loading docks for efficient logistics.
The work culture at Food Lifeline is mission-driven, collaborative, and community-focused. There's a strong emphasis on teamwork, compassion, and the impact of their work, with a significant reliance on and appreciation for volunteers.
The headquarters is the nerve center of Food Lifeline's operations, enabling the rescue and distribution of tens of millions of pounds of food each year, making it a critical infrastructure component in the fight against hunger in the region.
Food Lifeline's operations are focused on serving communities within Western Washington. While it is a member of the national Feeding America network, its direct service and distribution activities are regional. Food Lifeline plays a vital role in the local food security ecosystem but does not have an international operational presence.
