The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) is the EU's agency dedicated to achieving a high common level of cybersecurity across Europe. Established in 2004 and strengthened by the EU Cybersecurity Act, ENISA contributes to EU cyber policy, enhances the trustworthiness of ICT products, services, and processes with cybersecurity certification schemes, cooperates with Member States and EU bodies, and helps Europe prepare for the cyber challenges of tomorrow. The agency works closely with Member States and private sector stakeholders to develop advice and recommendations on good practice in information security, assists the European Commission and Member States in policy development and implementation, and supports capacity building throughout the EU.
Serves as the primary administrative and strategic hub for ENISA, coordinating the agency's efforts to enhance cybersecurity across the European Union, including policy support, operational cooperation, and stakeholder engagement.
Modern office facilities located in Athens, designed to support collaborative work and secure operations. The Athens office is the legally mandated seat of the agency.
A dynamic, multicultural, and mission-driven environment fostering collaboration among cybersecurity experts from across Europe. The culture emphasizes expertise, innovation, public service, and a commitment to protecting the EU's digital single market.
The Athens headquarters symbolizes ENISA's central role in the EU's cybersecurity framework and its commitment to being located within one of the Member States. It serves as the nerve center for policy development, capacity building, and operational cooperation.
While ENISA's primary mandate is to enhance cybersecurity within the European Union, its work has a significant international dimension and global impact. ENISA supports EU Member States by providing expertise, fostering cooperation, and developing common approaches to cybersecurity challenges. It actively collaborates with international partners, non-EU countries, and international organizations (such as NATO, OECD, ITU) to share best practices, promote EU cybersecurity standards and certification schemes, and contribute to a more secure and resilient global digital environment. Functions supported include cybersecurity policy development and implementation support, capacity building initiatives that extend beyond the EU, facilitating international cybersecurity exercises, sharing threat intelligence, and promoting the EU's vision for a human-centric, secure, and open cyberspace.
