The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) is a component center of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Research and Development Directorate. Its mission is to serve active-duty military, their beneficiaries, and veterans with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) through state-of-the-science clinical care, innovative clinical research initiatives, and comprehensive educational programs. DVBIC works to improve TBI care by developing and disseminating best practices, conducting research, and providing resources to healthcare providers, service members, veterans, and their families.
The headquarters serves as the central coordinating body for DVBIC's network of research, clinical care, and educational activities related to traumatic brain injury. It oversees program development, policy implementation, research initiatives, and dissemination of information.
Located in a modern office building, facilitating collaboration with nearby federal health institutions and research organizations. Its strategic location supports its mission to integrate research and clinical care.
The work culture at DVBIC headquarters is highly mission-driven, collaborative, and focused on scientific rigor and compassionate care. Employees are dedicated to improving the lives of service members and veterans affected by TBI.
The headquarters is significant as the nerve center for the DoD's efforts in TBI, coordinating a national network of sites and influencing TBI care and policy across military and veteran healthcare systems.
Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center supports a network of 22 sites, primarily located at military treatment facilities (MTFs) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers across the United States and internationally, such as in Germany.
