Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). It performs three primary missions: emergency services, including search and rescue and disaster relief; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for individuals aged 12 through 20. With a nationwide volunteer force, CAP is dedicated to serving communities, states, and the nation through aviation-minded service.
The National Headquarters acts as the central command and administrative hub for Civil Air Patrol's nationwide operations, programs, and volunteer membership. It provides strategic direction, resource management, and support to all 52 wings.
Co-location on Maxwell Air Force Base facilitates close collaboration with the U.S. Air Force. The facility is a modern administrative building designed to support national operations.
The work culture is professional, mission-driven, and service-oriented, reflecting a blend of civilian volunteer dedication and the precision associated with its U.S. Air Force auxiliary role. It emphasizes teamwork, integrity, and community impact.
Serves as the nerve center for coordinating CAP's national emergency response efforts, aerospace education initiatives, and the renowned cadet program, ensuring consistent standards and operational readiness across the United States.
Civil Air Patrol's primary operational focus is within the United States, including all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and the District of Columbia. Additionally, CAP maintains a limited global presence through overseas squadrons, typically located on U.S. military bases in Europe and Asia. These overseas units primarily support U.S. military communities by offering cadet programs and aerospace education, extending CAP's youth development and community service missions abroad.
