Children's Theatre of Charlotte (CTC) is a premier professional theatre company dedicated to creating exceptional and innovative theatrical experiences for children and families. Founded in 1948, it is one of the oldest and largest such theatres in the United States. CTC offers a diverse season of productions, ranging from classic literary adaptations to contemporary works, alongside comprehensive theatre education programs and community outreach initiatives. Its mission is to inspire imagination, foster creativity, and instill a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts in young people.
The headquarters at ImaginOn serves as the primary venue for mainstage productions, educational classes and workshops, administrative offices, costume and prop shops, and rehearsal spaces.
ImaginOn is a 102,000-square-foot facility shared with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. It features two state-of-the-art theatres: the 570-seat McColl Family Theatre and the 250-seat Wells Fargo Playhouse, along with production studios, classrooms, and interactive exhibit spaces.
The work culture is creative, collaborative, and mission-driven, with a strong focus on enriching the lives of children and families through high-quality artistic and educational programming.
ImaginOn is a nationally recognized landmark for youth services and a vital cultural resource for the Charlotte community, providing a dedicated and inspiring space for children's theatre and literacy.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte primarily serves the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region and the Carolinas. While it is nationally recognized within the Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) community in the USA and may participate in national festivals or collaborations, it does not maintain a global operational presence with international offices. Its influence beyond its immediate region is primarily through its reputation, potential touring productions within the US, and contributions to the field of children's theatre.
