The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) is one of the oldest and largest fire departments in the United States. It provides fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), special operations (including hazardous materials, air-sea rescue, dive rescue, and technical rescue), and fire prevention and education programs to the residents and visitors of Chicago. Committed to safeguarding lives and property, CFD responds to thousands of calls each year with a dedicated team of firefighters, paramedics, and support staff.
Serves as the central administrative and command hub for the Chicago Fire Department, coordinating operations, training, and strategic planning.
Modern, purpose-built facility co-locating Fire Department, Police Department, and Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) to enhance inter-agency collaboration. Features advanced command and control capabilities.
A demanding, professional, and highly disciplined environment focused on public service, teamwork, courage, and continuous improvement. Collaboration is key, especially with other co-located public safety agencies.
Centralizes Chicago's key public safety command structures, fostering improved communication, coordinated emergency response, and operational efficiency across departments.
The Chicago Fire Department's primary operational mandate is to serve and protect the City of Chicago. While it does not have a global operational footprint in a corporate sense, CFD actively participates in national and international knowledge-sharing initiatives, adheres to globally recognized best practices in firefighting and emergency services, and engages in mutual aid agreements with surrounding municipalities and regions. Its members may also be deployed for disaster relief efforts nationally when requested through state or federal emergency management agencies.
