Calsonic Kansei Corporation was a major Japanese automotive parts company, headquartered in Saitama, Japan. It was formed in 2000 through the merger of Calsonic Corp. (founded 1938) and Kansei Corp. (founded 1956). Historically, Nissan was a primary shareholder and key customer. In 2017, Calsonic Kansei was acquired by the American private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). Subsequently, in May 2019, Calsonic Kansei merged with Magneti Marelli, an automotive components manufacturer previously owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), to form Marelli. Marelli is now a leading global independent automotive supplier, offering a wide range of products including thermal systems, exhaust systems, electronics, interior components, and powertrain systems to automakers worldwide.
Historically served as the central hub for global operations, R&D, engineering, and corporate management for Calsonic Kansei. It remains a key operational and R&D site for Marelli in Japan.
The Saitama facility housed advanced research and development laboratories, testing tracks for product validation, and state-of-the-art manufacturing lines for key automotive components.
Characterized by Japanese 'Monozukuri' principles (craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence), emphasizing quality, continuous improvement (Kaizen), and strong engineering capabilities. A collaborative environment focused on innovation for the automotive sector.
This location was pivotal to Calsonic Kansei's growth as a global Tier 1 supplier, fostering close collaboration with Japanese automakers and driving innovation in areas like thermal management and electronics.
As Marelli, the company has a significant global footprint with approximately 170 facilities and R&D centers across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia-Pacific. This extensive network supports global automakers by providing localized manufacturing, engineering, and sales support for a comprehensive portfolio of automotive systems and components, including lighting, electronics, powertrain, thermal solutions, interiors, and exhaust systems.
