The American Composers Forum (ACF) is a prominent national arts service organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for individuals and groups creating music in the United States and its territories. Founded in 1973 as the Minnesota Composers Forum and renamed in 1996 to reflect its national scope, ACF connects composers and performing artists with communities, funding, professional development opportunities, and new audiences. Their work fosters a vibrant, equitable, and diverse ecosystem for contemporary music, championing living creators and the future of musical expression. ACF offers a variety of programs, including grants, commissions, residencies, mentorship, and resources, all designed to help composers at all stages of their careers thrive.
Serves as the central hub for program administration, artist support services, development, communications, and strategic leadership for the organization's national initiatives.
Located in the historic Hamm Building, the office provides a functional and accessible space for staff operations and occasional small meetings. It is not primarily a public performance or exhibition venue.
Collaborative, mission-driven, and deeply committed to equity and the artistic and professional development of composers. The environment fosters creativity, advocacy, and community engagement.
The headquarters is the operational core for one of the leading national organizations supporting contemporary music composers in the United States, coordinating nationwide programs and resources.
While primarily focused on supporting composers within the United States, the American Composers Forum's impact can extend internationally. The music created by ACF-supported artists is often performed and disseminated globally, contributing to the international contemporary music landscape. ACF also engages in dialogue and learning with international counterparts to share best practices in artist support.
