Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC) is a professional theatre company founded in 2004, dedicated to creating and telling heroic stories for and about young people. As a youth arts program of the Marcy-Newberry Association, ASC has been celebrated for its adventurous and inspiring new works, often developed from interviews with real individuals. The company has a strong legacy of engaging young audiences with thought-provoking and empowering narratives, primarily staging its productions at the Vittum Theater. As of late 2023, Adventure Stage Chicago has been on hiatus following the COVID-19 pandemic and the departure of its founding artistic director in 2021. Its parent organization, Marcy-Newberry Association, continues its community work.
Served as the primary venue for Adventure Stage Chicago's performances, rehearsals, educational workshops, and administrative operations.
The Vittum Theater, operated by Northwestern Settlement, provided ASC with a 299-seat proscenium stage, professional lighting and sound equipment, and support spaces including dressing rooms and a lobby. Its location within a community-focused setting enhanced accessibility.
ASC fostered a creative, collaborative, and youth-focused work culture, emphasizing storytelling, community engagement, and social-emotional learning. The environment was dedicated to nurturing young artists and audiences with high-quality theatrical experiences.
The Vittum Theater was significant as it provided a consistent and professional space for ASC to develop and present its unique brand of theatre for young audiences, making critically acclaimed productions accessible to the Chicago community.
Adventure Stage Chicago primarily focused on serving audiences within the Chicago metropolitan area. While its stories often carried universal themes, its operational presence was local, and it did not have an active global touring or operational footprint.
