ACT Alliance is a global coalition of more than 140 churches and faith-based organizations working together in over 120 countries. Their mission is to create positive and sustainable change in the lives of people affected by poverty and injustice. ACT Alliance members engage in humanitarian aid, sustainable development, and advocacy to address global challenges, driven by a commitment to justice, peace, and human dignity for all, regardless of religion, race, gender, or political affiliation. The alliance was formed in 2010 through the merger of ACT International and ACT Development.
The Geneva headquarters serves as the central coordinating body for the global alliance, facilitating strategic planning, policy development, global advocacy, communications, resource mobilization, and support for its member organizations worldwide.
The headquarters is situated within the Ecumenical Centre, a symbolic location that hosts numerous international faith-based, ecumenical, and non-governmental organizations, fostering a collaborative environment.
The work culture at the ACT Alliance secretariat is mission-driven, collaborative, and international, reflecting its diverse global membership. There is a strong emphasis on solidarity, justice, ecumenical cooperation, and accountability.
Geneva's status as an international center for humanitarian affairs, human rights, and multilateral diplomacy makes it a pivotal location for ACT Alliance to engage with UN agencies, governments, and other global partners to advance its advocacy and programmatic goals.
ACT Alliance operates globally through its secretariat and a network of over 140 member organizations in more than 120 countries. Its functions span a wide spectrum: coordinating and implementing emergency humanitarian responses; long-term development programs focused on areas like food security, health, education, climate change adaptation, and economic empowerment; and global, regional, and national advocacy on issues such as climate justice, gender justice, peace and human security, and the rights of migrants and displaced persons. The alliance facilitates capacity strengthening, promotes quality and accountability standards (like the Core Humanitarian Standard), enables joint fundraising, and amplifies the collective voice of its faith-based members on the world stage.
