Axiom Space is a commercial space exploration company dedicated to building the world's first commercial space station, Axiom Station, to succeed the International Space Station (ISS) and serve as a global research and manufacturing hub in low Earth orbit (LEO). Founded in 2016 by Michael T. Suffredini, former NASA ISS Program Manager, and Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, Axiom Space provides end-to-end mission services for private and national astronauts, conducts cutting-edge research, and develops in-space manufacturing capabilities. Their vision is to create a thriving LEO economy, making space accessible for a broader range of human endeavors and scientific discovery, and to ensure continuous human presence in LEO.
The headquarters serves as the central hub for Axiom Space's operations, including spacecraft design, engineering, mission control for Axiom missions, astronaut training, and the manufacturing and assembly of Axiom Station modules.
The expansive campus, currently under phased development, will eventually encompass over 500,000 square feet. It features high bays for module assembly, advanced laboratories, mission operations rooms, and dedicated astronaut training facilities, strategically co-located at the Houston Spaceport.
Axiom Space cultivates a dynamic, innovative, and mission-centric work culture. Employees are deeply passionate about advancing space exploration and work collaboratively to achieve ambitious pioneering goals. The environment emphasizes ingenuity, rigorous problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and mission success.
This purpose-built headquarters is pivotal for Axiom Space's capability to design, construct, and operate its commercial space station. It solidifies Houston's role as a leading center for human spaceflight in the post-ISS era and anchors the burgeoning commercial space ecosystem at Houston Spaceport.
Axiom Space fosters global access to low Earth orbit by partnering with international space agencies, foreign governments, academic institutions, commercial entities, and private individuals from around the world. They manage and fly multinational astronaut crews on missions to the ISS (e.g., Ax-1, Ax-2, Ax-3 featured astronauts from multiple countries including the US, Spain, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Turkey, and Sweden) and will continue to do so for Axiom Station. The company actively facilitates international research payloads and collaborations, serving a worldwide customer base seeking orbital access for scientific, technological, and commercial purposes.
